SUMMARY:The Wonderful Diversity of Plant Photosynthesis
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Karolina Heyduk\, Director of the George Safford Torrey Herbarium (CONN); Assistant Professor and Rosalind Endowed Chair in Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology\, University of Connecticut\, Storrs\, CT\nHybrid at the University of Connecticut at 5:30pm.\nThis program will feature an optional tour of the herbarium and greenhouse before the presentation from 3:30-5pm. Space is limited; registration is required.\n“The Wonderful Diversity of Plant Photosynthesis”\nAbstract: Despite appreciating the importance of photosynthesis to both plant life and the planet more broadly\, many of us may never spare a second thought to how photosynthesis has evolved. Over millions of years\, plants have expanded into novel habitats\, some of which are stressful—stressful enough that they can inhibit efficient photosynthesis. In turn\, plants have evolved adaptations via changes to their photosynthetic machinery to cope with those stresses. This talk will introduce some of the marvelous variety of plant photosynthesis\, how we think it evolved\, and discuss what photosynthetic variation means for people\, plants\, and the planet.\n\nRegistration Forms\n\nNon-members register for the lecture only here.\nMembers and non-members register for the tour here.\n\nLocation and Parking Information\n\nMap with Detailed Instructions (PDF)(map oriented North)\nParking is in North Garage $2/hour (magenta star on map). Enter the right side where it says ‘public parking’\nTour (registration required): meet at the Uconn Botanical Conservancy (blue star on map)\nLecture: Biology/Physics Building Rm 130 (green star on map). From North Garage you can walk up the stairs and across the street and across the pavers. Enter through any door of the Bio/Physics Building and the lecture hall is to the left.
