The New England Botanical Society welcomes original content and photographs from members. By contributing, you help document the rich botanical heritage of New England and support the Society’s mission to advance plant science, education, and conservation.
Whether you are a professional or avocational botanist, a student, or an avid field naturalist, we invite you to share your work.
What You Can Contribute
Stories
We invite a wide range of written submissions, including:
- Member Spotlights:
- An image and short paragraph about your botanical interests, involvement with NEBS, or other ways you interact with plants
- Observations with commentary on what is interesting about them
- Notable finds
- Conservation highlights
- Personal experiences with botany (travel, work, self-study)
- Informal book reviews
Submissions may be considered for publication on the NEBS website and/or Society communications. Shorter submissions may also be published on social media.
Photography
We welcome high-quality photographs that highlight:
- Fieldwork and botanical exploration
- Native and naturalized plant species
- Plant communities and habitats
- Seasonal changes and ecological interactions
Photographs may be featured on the NEBS website, social media, presentations, or promotional materials, with full credit to the photographer.
Submission Guidelines
Please review the following before uploading your content:
- Submissions are open to NEBS members only
- All submissions must be original work created by the contributor
- Written content should be clear, well-organized, and properly cited where appropriate
- Photographs should be high resolution (JPEG or PNG preferred)
- Contributors must confirm they hold the rights to all submitted materials
- If there are people in the photographs, permission must be obtained from them prior to submission. By submitting you are confirming that permission has been granted
- By submitting, contributors are providing permission for the submitted material to be used by NEBS
- Please consider adding a 1-3 sentence “About Me” section with your submission (work/educational experience, favorite plant family, notable botany experiences, etc.)
- Submissions may be edited for clarity, length, or formatting.
- If you are under 18, you must include parent/guardian permission and contact information.
Submission does not guarantee publication. All content is reviewed by NEBS staff or editorial volunteers prior to acceptance.

What Happens Next?
After submission:
- You will receive a confirmation email
- Your content will be reviewed by the appropriate NEBS team
- If accepted, you may be contacted with questions, edits, or publication details
We aim to respond to submissions within 3 weeks.
